Infrastructure – Our community is growing rapidly. With the work of our City Manager, we have been able to accommodate some of the increase in traffic. I hope to be a voice for our community and work to keep our roads and sidewalks safe and accessible to all, keeping Adair Village a walkable friendly community. We also need to address exit issues with NE Ryals and Highway 99W. As the development has increased, exiting has become a long wait. While this is ultimately an ODOT project, we need to have a solution that is safe and effective.
Transportation – Along with infrastructure comes transportation needs. Adair has limited transportation options for our citizens. I would like to work with Benton Area Transit to increase the bus schedule by at least one additional hour. This would give residents a pick-up and drop-off schedule that might better accommodate a variety of work schedules.
Coffin Butte Expansion – I am not in favor of Benton County becoming the dumping ground for the rest of the state. We all live down-wind! The plan for the expansion included closing a road that is vital to our Soap Creek neighbors. This closure would put Adair Village and Soap Creek in a precarious position with regards to fire risk. Republic Services needs to find other locations in Oregon to accommodate debris and provide a balanced approach to waste disposal from other counties.
Small business enterprise – As our community grows and we create a true downtown core; I want to encourage the growth of small businesses. These businesses will bring jobs, entertainment and revenue to our community. Adair is not ideal for large corporate businesses, but we are perfect for small businesses who want to contribute to the vitality and development of the area.
Measure 2-158 Fire bond – Additional expenses are not something anyone wants to add to their budget. But in this case, I fully support an increase to my property taxes to support our rural fire department. Adair Rural Fire Protection District is asking voters to authorize the issuance of general obligation bonds not to exceed $1,860,000 to finance capital costs for fire apparatus and other public safety equipment. The current equipment is 30 & 40 years old and were purchased used at that time. With a field fire and two fires at the Republic Services compost facility, we need our fire personnel to have the equipment they need to keep our community safe.
